A sickness certificate completed and signed by your doctor is only required when a period of continuous absence from work, due to illness, is one of seven days’ duration or longer. For the absence of up to three days, no certificate is required. Between three and six days’ absence is adequately covered by a ‘self-certificate (available from any employer). All employers should be aware of these regulations.
If your employer still requires a certificate for an absence of fewer than seven days we can supply a private certificate for which a fee may be charged.
